Each member is required to take one or more of ASE's 40+ exams that are grouped into specialties for automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, parts specialists, collision repair technicians, and collision damage estimators. Only upon passing at least one exam and providing proof of two years or relevant work experience can a auto repair shop become certified. Furthermore, ASE certified affiliates must be retested every five years.
